(DALLAS) — The “best of the best,” representing employees of the Dallas County Community College District, were recognized during a special program at North Lake College on Friday, Feb. 24. A select group of faculty, administrators and professional support staff who distinguished themselves in the classroom and on the job during the 2011-2012 academic year received plaques and applause from colleagues, family members and friends during the event. Several retirees also were recognized for their previous service to DCCCD.

Each DCCCD college and location nominates and selects its own annual awardees; districtwide honorees are chosen from those top winners.

DCCCD’s Excellence Award winners for 2011-2012 are:

  • Faculty Excellence in Teaching/Miles Production Award: Dr. Paul Benson, Mountain View College
  • Adjunct Faculty Excellence in Teaching Award: Marilyn Lancaster, Cedar Valley College
  • Administrator of the Year: Michael Guttierez, Eastfield College
  • Full-Time Professional Support Staff Employee of the Year: Zina Gardiner, Richland College
  • Part-Time Professional Support Staff Employee of the Year: Ora Howard, Richland College
  • Retiree Hall of Honor (faculty): Bette Neeley-Plog, El Centro College
  • Retiree Hall of Honor (administrator): Cynthia Bowlin, El Centro College
  • Retiree Hall of Honor (professional support staff): Doug Simoneaux, Richland College
  • Jean Sharon Griffith Student Leadership Development Award: North Lake College Services for Student Support team, led by Carole Gray

The district also honors innovative thinking and the projects which result from those efforts. The 2012 awardees are:

  • Innovation of the Year: Lewis Giles, Cedar Valley College, for “Innovation: Co-Curricular Transcripts”
  • Learning Technology Innovation of the Year: LeCroy Center for Educational Telecommunications, led by Craig Mays, for “Biology Online”

Dr. Wright Lassiter Jr., DCCCD’s chancellor, spoke during the Carnivale-themed event. The district’s college presidents and members of the chancellor’s executive team attended, as well as leaders from the faculty, administrator, professional support staff and retiree organizations plus all awardees from the district’s colleges and locations.
