(DALLAS) — Whether she’s exploring fantastic stories, siblings or censorship, noted author Judy Blume has tackled tales that have touched the hearts of countless children, teens and adults. One of her most beloved books, “Are You There God? It’s Me Margaret,” was named to the School Library Journal’s list of “One Hundred Books that Shaped the Century.” Blume’s books about pre-teen Peter Hatcher and his troublesome younger brother, Farley — known to avid readers as Fudge — begins with “Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing,” which celebrates its 40th anniversary this year.
Blume’s fans, young and old alike, will have a chance to meet her and hear more about her life and work during a program presented by the Dallas County Community College District on Thursday, April 19, as part of the Arts and Letters Live series sponsored by the Dallas Museum of Art; DCCCD is a community partner for the spring 2012 Arts and Letters Live season.
Tickets for the event are $10 for students (including those who attend DCCCD), $16 for adults and $14 reduced (DMA members, educators, librarians and seniors age 65 and older). The featured writer has penned more than 25 books and has earned more than 90 awards since she began her career many years ago, including the Margaret A. Edwards Award for Lifetime Achievement, the Library of Congress Living Legends Award and the National Book Foundation’s Medal for Distinguished Contribution to American Letters.
