(DALLAS) — Buns on the run — that’s what participants in the 2012 Dallas Marathon can enjoy (along with muffins, turnovers, cookies, cheddar biscuits and other fresh goodies) when they make a pit stop before the race at El Centro College.

Known in Dallas for their culinary creations, El Centro Food and Hospitality Institute students will offer “Breakfast on the Run” on Sunday, Dec. 9, beginning at 6 a.m. Faculty, graduates of the program and staffers also will help make the early morning hours palatable with goods baked and sold on the premises; menu prices will range from $1 to $2 per item. Yogurt, fresh fruits and breakfast burritos also will provide a healthy start for runners that morning, along with freshly-made beverages — hot coffee, hot chocolate and hot tea — plus orange juice, apple juice and bottled water.

The marathon, which starts at 8 a.m., is expected to attract approximately 25,000 runners to the El Centro College neighborhood in downtown Dallas.

“What better way could you start a race day than with hot, fresh baked goods and breakfast items created by our El Centro culinary students?” said Gus Katsigris, professor emeritus. “The price is right, the location is perfect and the food will be great!”

All proceeds from El Centro’s “Breakfast on the Run” event will be contributed to a fund that has been established to expand the ECC Food and Hospitality Institute’s facilities.

Runners and the friends in their cheering sections can either purchase goodies on site at the Market Street entrance to the college (located between Main and Lamar streets) or pre-purchase tickets ($10 minimum) by phone or check. To order tickets in advance by credit card over the phone, call El Centro College at (214) 860-2048 and indicate that the purchase is for “Breakfast on the Run”; deadline to order by credit card is Dec. 4. To order by mail, send a check to arrive by Nov. 30 to: El Centro College Business Division, ATTN: Cindy Bozzelli-Duke, 801 Main St., Dallas, Texas, 75202. Please make checks payable to the DCCCD Foundation.
