DCCCD’s chancellor and trustees celebrated the inaugural art exhibit in the Founders’ Foyer with some of the student artists.

Several DCCCD art students, their instructors, the district’s top administrators and other guests gathered to celebrate the inaugural art exhibit in the Founders’ Foyer during a special reception on Dec. 4 in the DCCCD District Office.

Hosted by the DCCCD Foundation and Development Office, the reception was held to welcome four DCCCD students whose art pieces are displayed on the walls of the Founders’ Foyer, made possible by a generous gift from Margaret McDermott, founding DCCCD Board of Trustees vice chair.

DCCCD Chancellor Wright L. Lassiter Jr. kicked off the reception by welcoming guests, introducing the students and presenting them with stipends in appreciation for their displayed pieces. DCCCD Board of Trustees Chair Jerry Prater, who previously purchased a piece of student artwork in the Founders’ Foyer, also spoke to guests; he was joined by trustees Bob Ferguson, Wesley Jameson and JL Sonny Williams.

The participating art students and their respective colleges were Brian Burkhardt, El Centro; Betty Levy, Richland; Kenneth Rajspis, Brookhaven; and Rachel Schwarz, Richland. Schwarz is now attending Southern Methodist University.

Eddy Rawlinson, interim executive dean of the Arts and Sciences Division at El Centro who serves as curator of the foyer’s art exhibit, also welcomed guests and provided an overview of the student exhibit.

The art faculty members, college gallery directors and administrators in attendance included Rosemary DesPlas, El Centro; Lisa Ehrich, Brookhaven; Diane Hilbert, Richland; Vicki Mayhan, Richland; Rick Maxwell, Brookhaven; Tom Motley, Richland; Michael Mazurek, Richland; and Jennifer Rose, Richland.

The current exhibit runs now through Dec. 20.
