(DALLAS) — Don Perry, executive director for compliance and policy formation at the Dallas County Community College District, has been honored for his statewide achievement in leadership as the second recipient of the Dr. Lindle Grigsby Leadership Award. The honor is given by the Texas Community College Instructional Leaders Association through a nomination process that is conducted by members of the Texas Association of Continuing Education, the Texas Association of College Technical Educators and the Texas Community College Instructional Administrators. The award acknowledges Perry’s expertise and 30 years of experience in community college advocacy. He received the award on Oct. 2 in Austin during TCCIL’s annual conference.
“During these (30) years, Don Perry has demonstrated an advocacy for the mission of community college education and the students they serve,” said Joyce Williams, DCCCD’s district director of workforce education and development and a longtime colleague. “This honor is well-bestowed on a great person and a great leader.”
Colleges, universities, area businesses and members of the Texas Workforce Commission know Perry well and have worked with him since 1981, when he began his career in the district as dean of continuing education at Mountain View College. He came to the district’s administrative offices in 1996, became district director of workforce education in 1997 and then became the compliance administrator (with a subsequent title change in fall 2013). He moved from the office of educational affairs to the DCCCD office of public and governmental affairs two years ago.
Perry previously has served as president of TACTE and chair of WECM Leadership, and was a member of the TACE board of directors. He currently serves as DCCCD’s designated liaison to the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, the Metroplex Higher Education Regional Council and the North Texas Higher Education Regional Council.
“Don has mentored many community college leaders, and he also led a number of efforts that have had a direct impact on Texas community colleges,” said Justin Lonon, DCCCD’s vice chancellor for public and governmental affairs. “We all congratulate him on the outstanding job he has done, and we know that he has contributed to our students’ success many times over.”
(DALLAS) — Kathy Cook, director of advertising for the Dallas County Community College District, recently was promoted to DCCCD’s director of marketing and communications. Cook, who started her career with the district more than 35 years ago, has managed the district’s advertising campaigns, media buys and promotional efforts since 2001. She is involved with print, broadcast (radio and television) and online advertising projects; works on community outreach activities as part of an overall marketing effort; and coordinates projects with designers and agencies for multiple marketing efforts.
Cook began her tenure with DCCCD as coordinator of public information at Richland College; she then became director of public information at Mountain View College, public information specialist in the district’s administrative offices and, most recently, district director of advertising and promotions. She holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism/public relations sequence from the University of Texas at Austin and an associate degree from the paralegal program at El Centro College.
As director of marketing, Cook oversees advertising, promotions, community outreach, media buying and online marketing projects. During her career, she has received a total of more than 50 awards in higher education advertising and community relations from the National Council for Marketing and Public Relations, Admissions Marketing Report and the Council for Advancement and Support of Education.

Her award-winning efforts have increased enrollment, name recognition and community engagement throughout Dallas County, and we are pleased that she is our new marketing and communications director,” said Justin Lonon, vice chancellor for public and governmental affairs at DCCCD.”
