DCCCD Chancellor’s Contract Vote Moved to December 2013

(DALLAS) — The Dallas County Community College District’s board of trustees will vote to approve the selection of DCCCD’s next chancellor, Dr. Joe May, during its regular monthly meeting in December. The agenda item to formally approve May’s appointment originally was scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 5; it has been moved to the board’s Tuesday, Dec. 3, agenda so that the contract with May can be completed.
The DCCCD board of trustees conducted a national search for a new chancellor; its members comprised the executive search committee, and they announced their choice of the sole finalist in October. May is chancellor of the Louisiana Community and Technical College System. The district’s current chancellor, Dr. Wright Lassiter Jr., announced his retirement earlier this year, which prompted the national search.
Jerry Prater, chair of the DCCCD board of trustees, said, “In order to give our legal counsel time to finalize the details of Dr. May’s contract, I am asking that the agenda item regarding this agreement be moved to the Dec. 3 board meeting. This additional time also gives our board of trustees ample opportunity to review the agreement before the final vote. We look forward to completing this process and to bringing Dr. May on board formally as our new chancellor on Feb. 26, 2014.”
