(DALLAS) — Felix Zamora, president of Mountain View College, submitted a request to retire, effective April 30, 2014, during a special meeting of the Dallas County Community College District’s board of trustees held on Monday, April 21. Zamora retires from the district with a total of 31 years of service as an administrator. He served as assistant to the president and as vice president of student and institutional development at Eastfield College for 21 years and then became president at Mountain View in 2004.
During Zamora’s tenure at Mountain View, he worked to establish the college as one of the country’s leading minority-serving institutions. Under Zamora’s leadership, the college has been awarded more than $26 million in grants from federal, state and private sources that have provided funds for significant educational partnerships.
Mountain View College has become a major resource for economic and educational development in southwest Dallas County because it has introduced a fully accredited nursing program; a mechanical engineering initiative; and a nationally recognized Early College High School, in partnership with the Dallas Independent School District. During his tenure, Zamora also oversaw an extensive $52 million facilities expansion, which was part of DCCCD’s 2004 general obligation bond program approved by voters. The college added 132,917 square feet — an expansion that created four new instructional buildings and a sports complex.
The DCCCD Board of Trustees has begun the process of appointing an interim president at Mountain View College to ensure a smooth administrative transition.
