(DALLAS) — The latest collection of diverse artwork created by students from the colleges of DCCCD adorns the Founders’ Foyer and other locations at the district’s headquarters. The current exhibit runs through November 2014.

The exhibit’s 18 pieces were chosen from a pool of 102 entries by the DCCCD Foundation arts committee, chaired by Lynn McBee. Instructors and administrators from the visual arts programs at the district’s seven colleges submit the entries for final selection.

McBee was on hand to meet and greet some of the students during a special reception showcasing the current exhibit on April 14. DCCCD Chancellor Joe May welcomed guests and presented cash awards to the 12 honored students who attended.

“The art committee has been impressed by the art pieces that are selected for the rotating exhibits,” says McBee, who also serves on the DCCCD Foundation board. “I really enjoy coming to the receptions and meeting the student artists. It’s always interesting to hear how they created their artwork and what motivated or inspired them to use the medium or subject for their specific pieces.”

The honored students (listed with their colleges) who attended the reception include:

  • Sharlann Adams, Cedar Valley College
  • Margaret Bailey, Mountain View College
  • Justin Davidson, Cedar Valley College
  • Wendy Frye, Brookhaven College
  • Crawford King, El Centro College
  • Isiah Mcgrew III, El Centro College
  • Ann McIntyre, Cedar Valley College
  • Kelly Laykin Natale, Brookhaven College
  • Bill Rudd, Richland College
  • Terri Wilder, Cedar Valley College
  • Jim Wright, Brookhaven College
  • Tommy Wright, North Lake College

The Founders’ Foyer and art exhibit are made possible through a generous gift from Margaret McDermott.  The DCCCD Foundation administers the Founders’ Foyer rotating exhibit and hosts the artists’ reception.
