(DALLAS) — Career services staff members from the Dallas County Community College District are among a number of volunteers who will assist with individual career coaching and other job-search services — all part of a Military Hiring Fair hosted by Dallas Baptist University on Feb. 10-12. The workshops and hiring fair are free for veterans and active-duty military members who are job seekers; registration is required. Visit www.americas-fs.org.

The three-day event includes career coaching workshops on Feb. 10 as well as a military employment roundtable; the military hiring fair will be held Feb. 11 and 12.

During the two-day hiring fair, veterans can visit with more than 100 employers — 50 different organizations each day — with the potential to fill more than 5,000 jobs. The fair will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. both days in the Mahler Student Center/Hillcrest Great Hall at DBU, located at 3000 Mountain Creek Parkway in Dallas.

The two employment coaching sessions, scheduled on Feb. 10 from 1 to 4:30 p.m. and repeated from 4:30 to 8 p.m., will be provided by JPMorgan Chase. Coaches from DallasHR, Hire Heroes USA, DCCCD and other organizations will prepare job seekers for the hiring fair the following two days.

During the first day of activities, a military employment roundtable will provide a best practices sharing opportunity for human resources representatives and other leaders who have hiring authority for their organizations. Veterans who participate in the career coaching workshops will receive special access to employers during the hiring fair on Feb. 11 from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m.

Dawn Gomez, coordinator of career services at North Lake College, and other career services volunteers and VA coordinators from DCCCD will provide services such as career coaching, career assessment, resumé assistance and ways to craft short “elevator speeches,” plus mock interview practices during the event.

Again, registration is required for the free program at www.americas-fs.org. Anyone who has questions can contact Rich Lakers, with America’s Future Series, at (972) 342-5504 or rlakers@americas-fs.org.
