(DALLAS) — The Dallas County Community College District’s board of trustees approved the hiring of two new workers to its much touted workforce and economic development team.

​Anita Gordy-Watkins is associate vice chancellor of global economic development.

Anita Gordy-Watkins has been named associate vice chancellor of global economic development. Ben Magill is the district’s executive director of labor market Intelligence.

They will work on stimulating solid economic growth with an emphasis on education, training and recruitment.

DCCCD is at the forefront of developing partnerships with area businesses and creating a new generation of skilled laborers, said Mark Hays, vice chancellor for workforce and economic development.

“These two bring a wealth of knowledge and talent and contacts,” Hays said. “They will help chambers of commerce and businesses grow and commit them to our students.”

DCCCD is partnering with area employers to broaden job opportunities for students and graduates while providing a sustainable work environment. The goal is to push thousands of trained, educated workers into the middle class, Hays said.

Gordy-Watkins’ most recent position was executive vice president of Oklahoma State University’s Institute of Technology. She holds a bachelor’s degree in marketing education and a master’s degree in human resource development from OSU.

She is an accomplished labor marketing expert with a history of providing employers with a trained and accomplished workforce.

​Ben Magill is executive director of labor market Intelligence.

​Magill is known in Dallas as an expert in stimulating job growth. He is a former president of the Metrocrest Chamber of Commerce in Addison, and he also served as economic development manager for the Town of Addison.

Magill was also the senior director of development in the Center for Innovation at the Arlington Chamber of Commerce. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Spanish and Latin American studies from OSU.

Magill started with the district on Sept. 2, 2015. Gordy-Watkins will join the DCCCD on Oct. 5, 2015.

Both were approved by trustees during the Sept. 1, 2015, board meeting.
