(DALLAS) — The Dallas County Community College District is “AAA.” That’s what Fitch Ratings said in April about DCCCD’s general obligation bonds, stating that the district’s rating outlook is stable.

Dr. Joe May, DCCCD’s chancellor, said in response to the excellent rating, “The Dallas County Community College District follows strong financial management practices over the long term to ensure that we have the necessary capital for operations. We are proud of those practices, and the Texas Comptroller’s Office repeatedly has honored DCCCD for our financial transparency, too.”

May added, “DCCCD’s tax rate is among the lowest in the state, and our tuition rates are among the most affordable in Texas as well. Fitch cited those factors in its rating. Members of our board of trustees are committed to low tuition and property tax rates as well as the sound fiscal planning practices that we follow.”

Fitch said that DCCCD follows solid management practices in its report: “Financial management practices are strong and pro-active, featuring long-term planning for capital and operations, conservative budgeting and interim reporting.”

The firm added, “The district benefits from experienced, conservative financial management as well as a diverse revenue stream comparable to most community colleges in the state that provides a measure of financial flexibility.”
