News brief

(DALLAS) — For the fifth consecutive year, the Dallas County Community College District has been awarded a Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting by the Government Finance Officers Association, a professional organization that encourages state and local governments to exceed minimum accounting requirements.

The GFOA honored DCCCD for its fiscal year 2016 comprehensive annual financial report, which ended last Aug. 31. Financial reports are examined by GFOA public sector accounting experts, auditors and other finance professionals, who certify that the information submitted satisfies the goals of the association.

Repeatedly earning the certificate is a major accomplishment for DCCCD and its business practices, according to John Robertson, the district’s chief financial officer.

“The GFOA Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting shows the dedication of DCCCD’s accounting personnel to perform at the highest levels in government reporting,” said Robertson. “Our district is proud of these employees, who strive to continue to meet those top standards in reporting DCCCD’s financials.”

The reports must be submitted by governments and governmental agencies within six months after the fiscal year has ended. The GFOA reviews the reports, and the results are published four to six months later.

The GFOA represents more than 19,000 public finance officials throughout the United States and Canada who work on planning, financing and implementing thousands of government operations in each of their jurisdictions. The association is headquartered in Chicago and has offices in Washington, D.C.
