​Dr. Jean Conway, president of Eastfield College, and Dr. Joe May, DCCCD chancellor, gave a warm welcome to a delegation of guests from Chongqing, China.

(DALLAS) — A delegation of guests from Chongqing, China, representing the Chongqing Automotive Training Program, is visiting Eastfield College for two weeks to learn more about the automotive technology program and also about community colleges in the U.S. Chongqing is a large municipality located where the Yangtze and Jialing rivers meet in southwestern China.

Members of the Chinese delegation are meeting faculty and students, observing classes and automotive technology training facilities at Eastfield, and visiting area car dealerships from Feb. 14 through March 3. They will leave for Detroit on March 4.

​The group was welcomed by Dr. Jean Conway, president of Eastfield College, on Monday, Feb. 13, during a special opening ceremony. Dr. Joe May, chancellor of the Dallas County Community College District, spoke with the delegation and other guests about community colleges in America and his global perspective on the importance of an educated workforce that meets the needs of today’s employers.

Two panel discussions were presented by Eastfield faculty and administrators titled “Trends in American Higher Education and the Community College” and “Technical Education: Pathways That Put Students to Work.”

Liu Jun, who serves as a lead faculty member at the Chongqing Wuyi Senior Vocational School, presented May with a collection of cards representing replicas of Chinese silk prints. Jun works as an instructor and helps grow international partnerships for his region.

​During the afternoon, the delegates from Chongqing met a number of Eastfield students, toured the campus and even shared some hoops time with the Harvesters basketball team.
