El Centro College Art Students Create Artwork Inspired by “CIRCUS 1903”
(May
16, 2017) Dallas, TX – Twelve El Centro College Art students, under the
direction of Omar Hernandez (Art Program Coordinator), designed 12
framed art pieces using various mediums that will be on display during
the entire run of CIRCUS 1903. The musical, which is showing at Music
Hall at Fair Park, runs May 23- June 4.
Their assignment was to
create a symbolic motif/logo/design based on the musical/performance
Circus 1903. Using the techniques, and lessons from the class along with
additional techniques, create a digital design that can either,
directly reference:
- the characters
- music
- history
- style
- concepts of the performance
Students
whose artwork is featured in the display are: Francisco Gonzales, Marco
Sanchez, Alejandro Subialdea, Eduardo Bermudez, Daniel Castillo, Hunter
Cave, Stephanie Hastings, Alexis Jimenez, Natalie Kessel, Christopher
Martinez, Luis Morales and Jerry Sharp.
The Art Department of El
Centro College provides a wide range of courses including studio and
lecture classes. Studio classes in both 2-D and 3-D media are offered
including drawing, painting, photography, design, jewelry & small
metals, sculpture and ceramics. These classes are essential coursework
for the student pursuing a degree in a creative field, and they supply
the student with valuable foundation skills. Students are encouraged to
engage in personal artistic exploration, and engage in community
activities such as exhibitions and collaborations.
