(DALLAS) – From the Greek
gods to the Olympics, from classic columns to the country’s cuisine …
sign up now for a taste and a classical tour of Greece this summer!
The
two-week excursion, set May 16-29, is presented by El Centro College
faculty members Gus Katsigris and Jimmie Henslee. (El Centro is one of
seven individually accredited institutions of Dallas County Community
Colleges.) Katsigris is professor emeritus of food and hospitality, and
Henslee is an accounting professor.
DTA Tours and Travel of
Dallas will make arrangements, and Katsigris – a native of Greece – will
share his expertise, in addition to the comments and knowledge of
“official” tour guides. Katsigris went on his first ECC-sponsored tour
in 1991 and shared the experience last year of seeing his country
prepare for the Olympics. “We will visit several islands and the shore
of Turkey, plus classical sites,” said Katsigris. “We’re also going to
the farm village where I was born. Everyone will experience Greece from
the sea to the land.”
Registration for the tour is open to the
general public. The 14-day trip is $3,379 per person, based on double
occupancy. The package includes a round-trip coach airline ticket; a
four-day classical tour; a two-day Leonidion visit; a four-day Aegean
cruise; a two-day visit to Athens for sightseeing; and all transfers and
handling.
Tour-goers will depart on Monday, May 16, from DFW
Airport on Lufthansa Airlines and arrive in Athens the next day, where
they will stay at the Deluxe Hotel Amalia in the ancient city of
Delphi. During the first few days, the classical tour will include
sights in Delphi, Olympia, Mycenae, Leonidion – Katsigris’ home town! –
and Athens. The package includes a four-day cruise departing from the
port of Piraeus in Athens to the Greek islands of Mykonos, Patmos, Crete
and Santorini, plus the Turkish port of Kusadasi. The group returns to
Athens for two days and then departs on Sunday, May 29.
