The Harvesters won the National Junior College Athletic Association Division III championship Nov. 11 by defeating the last year's winner, Harper College in Palatine, Illinois.

They are the first women's team in school history to bring home a national title.

Coach Brandon Crisp said the feeling was surreal and he was still struggled to take it all in.

“Now that the season’s over with, I can finally take a breath and have a sigh of relief that we got it done,” he said. “It feels great and we’re happy with what they did. I’m just so happy for the girls.”

Middle blocker Payton Costlow told The Et Cetera student newspaper that the victory meant so much to the team and after last year’s third place finish, they had their sights sets higher.

“This year coming into it, we knew we it was possible,” she said. “This was out goal all along and actually achieving that goal is amazing and breathtaking.”

Kalli Caddell and Costlow were named into the Team of the Tournament. Keishla Reyes was named the Tournament Most Valuable Player. Crisp was named Coach of the Tournament.

The team was honored, along with the soccer team with a a halftime celebration Nov. 30 at the basketball game.

“We are so, so proud of all of you,” President Jean Conway said. “The recognition that you bring Eastfield is phenomenal.”

The Office of Student Engagement & Retention dubbed the night Orange Out and gave away T-shirts so the crowd could turn the stands into a sea of orange. The soccer and volleyball teams were given orange carnations during the celebration.
