Fit 2 Hire

You’ve probably been to a job interview or two in your day. You know about the nervousness and the apprehension that comes with meeting a potential employer face-to-face for the first time.

You’re trying to balance so many things at once. You’ve got to demonstrate that you’re qualified. You’re trying to make a good first impression. You’re trying to find a way to stand out from what always seems like a bottomless pool of candidates with similar qualifications.

It’s a lot to handle for what amounts to a 20- or 30-minute conversation. But the most important decision might come before you even leave your home: what am I going to wear?

That’s part of the package you’re trying to sell this person. Pick me because I’m awesome and qualified and I’m going to be great in this position and, also, check out how professional I look!

DCCCD wants to make things easier for you with Fit 2 Hire. This Saturday, July 22, this free event will provide college students (like you!) with new or gently used professional attire, help with creating or enhancing your resume and some additional assistance with your interviewing skills.

The event will be held at the Bill J. Priest Institute from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. this Saturday.

Fit 2 Hire will also include nine different workshops throughout the Hoblitzelle Auditorium, each of which will be repeated in the 30-minute Sessions I, II and III.

Job search workshops

  • Need a Job? Create a Plan (Room 202B): Frustrated by the job search process? Learn strategies for an effective job search plan. Use the right tools, connect with the right people and get the right job!

Resume workshops

  • This is Why I'm HOT (Room 2700C): Learn how to write a winning resume. Show a potential employer that you have the skills, knowledge, experience and education needed to do the job.

Interview workshops

  • Practice to Perfection—Mock Interviews (Room 1220): Come role-play in an interview setting. After all, practice makes perfect!
  • How to Interview Like a Boss (Room 1215): Tired of job interview after job interview and not “connecting” with the hiring manager (or even getting a call back)? This session will give you step-by-step approaches on how to prepare for future interviews, skillfully navigate those meetings and successfully interview "Like a Boss.”
  • Splunk—Understanding the Interviewing Process (Room 202A): Getting a job is about selling yourself via your resume, CV and ultimately the job interview. Speaker Jason Earnest has interviewed over 50 people this year for internships and full-time employment at Splunk. Come find out what he looks for during an interview and learn what to say (and what not to say) in an interview.

Fashion workshops

  • Dress for Success (women go to Room 2200, men go to Room 2580): From job interviews to the workplace, learn how to enhance your appearance and dress for success!
  • Classic Man (Cafeteria, 2nd Floor, next to Room 2200): Don't wear it wrong, wear it right! Learn how to dress for the job you want. This workshop will discuss differences between "office casual" and "business professional." Learn industry-specific expectations as well as basic professional dress tips.

Career-Focused workshops

  • You’ve Got the Job … Now What? (Room 2700A): Any idea what you should do after you land a new job? This presentation will highlight what HR professionals have seen of many new hires that are unprepared at New Employee Orientations for onboarding. The workshop will cover topics everything from employee benefits (co-payment, co-insurance, FSA, etc.) to appropriate dress and work ethic/behavior.

Get ready to dress for success as you enter the workforce. We can’t wait to see you Saturday!
