(DALLAS) — As the national debate on climate change continues, citizens who support a clean, renewable-energy economy can learn how to talk to lawmakers using constructive communications to share their opinions. They can learn those skills during a free climate advocacy training workshop presented by the Dallas chapter of the Citizens’ Climate Lobby at Mountain View College on Thursday, Feb. 22, from 1 to 4 p.m.
Members of the general public are invited to attend as well as students and employees of the Dallas County Community College District. The program will be held in Building B (the Economic and Workforce Development Building), room B149; Mountain View College is located at 4849 W. Illinois Ave. in Dallas. Please register in advance.
“Citizens can learn the nuts and bolts of building political will and how to affect change in positive, constructive ways,” said Lori Delacruz Lewis, sustainability project coordinator at Mountain View. “We are pleased to host this program for citizens and for members of the DCCCD family who want to learn how to positively approach legislators about climate change.”
She added, “The purpose of the training is to introduce CCL to DCCCD and community members; to demystify citizen lobbying; and to immerse new volunteers in the values of CCL so that they begin to feel comfortable making decisions in the field.” Participants also will learn about a variety of roles they can play as a climate advocate.
“Citizens’ Climate Lobby members in Dallas and across the country are telling us that they are worried about climate change and are looking for ways to make a difference,” said Ricky Bradley, group leader for the Dallas chapter. “They are grateful that CCL is showing them how and that there is a group of dedicated people working together on the same goal. We want to offer more of our neighbors the same opportunity.”
