(DALLAS) — The rich culture, history and contributions of Hispanic Americans will be celebrated at Dallas College. National Hispanic Heritage Month takes place Sept. 15 through Oct. 15 with a spectacular array of activities designed to build and sustain communities, including lectures, food and family fun.

This year’s theme is “Juntos Podemos or Together We Can: Building Prosperous and Healthy Communities.”

The celebration explores traditions with campus events both virtual and in person that recognize the challenges and significant achievements of the Hispanic community.

All events are free and open to the public, unless otherwise noted.

Being Hispanic and LGBTQ+

Friday, Sept. 22, 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., in person at Richland Campus, 12800 Abrams Road, Dallas, Sabine Hall, Room 118, or online

This panel discussion focuses on how identities influence our experiences and how to seek and offer support. This event is open to all students, faculty, staff and community members — regardless of identity. Join “Being Hispanic and LGBTQ+” online

Culture Bites: Traditional Hispanic Food Showcase

Tuesday, Sept. 26, 11 a.m. to noon

This culinary nod includes snacks, games and prizes at all seven Dallas College campuses. Participants will learn about Dallas College pantries and the services they provide. Locations: El Centro – C100, Brookhaven – S003, Cedar Valley – D100, Eastfield – S100, Mountain View – S1029/S1030, North Lake – H237 and Richland – E070

Hispanic Heritage Celebration With North Texas Food Bank

Saturday, Sept. 23, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Celebrate the North Texas Food Bank at Dallas College West Dallas Center, 3330 N. Hampton Road, Dallas. The event showcases family fun and includes games as well as community resources including assistance with SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) applications. Meet teams from the North Texas Food Bank and Dallas College.

Creciendo Juntos: Success Strategies for Hispanic Students

Monday, Oct. 16, 11 a.m. to noon

This online-only session is designed to empower Hispanic students and transform their pathways, personally, financially and professionally. These “courageous conversations” will help students to build successful, debt-free lives. Participants will learn about scholarships and other financial opportunities, how to seek career options with major companies as well as find mental health resources.
