(DALLAS) — In the latest of a string of proposed transfer agreements with four-year universities across the region, Dallas College has now joined Tarleton State University to create a unique transfer pathway for students graduating with an associate degree while maintaining a minimum 3.0 GPA at Dallas College.
As part of a Distinguished College Partnership memorandum of understanding signed by both institutions last week, Tarleton State will provide annual scholarships, from $500 to $2,000, to Dallas College transfer students during the fall and spring semesters based on enrollment. The scholarships will be renewable up to three years with satisfactory academic progress.
“We’re excited to partner with Tarleton State on this latest transfer pathway that broadens the horizons of our hardworking students,” said Dallas College Chancellor Joe May. “There are various paths to a successful career for our students, including transfer, and this is another way we can help them reach their goals after graduating from Dallas College.”
The announcement follows a similar memorandum between Dallas College and Texas A&M University-Commerce signed last month to provide options for students wishing to build on their associate degree studies with bachelor’s degree-level coursework from A&M-Commerce, allowing Dallas-area students to save on tuition and graduate with less debt.
“Some of the brightest students in Texas graduate from Dallas College,” said Tarleton President James Hurley at the signing. “Many are the first in their family to earn a bachelor’s degree. We are eager to invest in their future.”
Tarleton is developing similar agreements with other two-year colleges in the region by offering other scholarships ranging from $250 to $1,500 per year for students. Award amounts are greater for students graduating from
Tarleton’s Distinguished College Partners program.
