US Veterans Affairs (VA) Education Benefits

Eligibility for Veterans Affairs education benefits is determined by the VA. For additional information on eligibility criteria and application processes visit the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs How to apply for the GI Bill webpage.

You must have proof of eligibility in order to use your VA education benefits at Dallas College.

Submission requirements are determined based on enrollment dates and our record retention policies as either first time, returning, or continuing student.

First Time Military Connected Student - Anyone who has not applied for VA Education benefits at Dallas College, even if awarded these same benefits from another institution.

Returning Military Connected Student - If it has been more than three years since you used VA Educational benefits at Dallas College.

Continuing Military Connected Student - If it has been more than three years since you used VA Educational benefits at Dallas College.

Guest Military Connected Student - A guest student is one who takes courses at one or more school that apply to his or her degree. The school that will grant the degree is the student’s “primary” school. All other schools are “secondary” schools.

Step 1. Gather Required Documents

Gather the documents below and have them ready to upload electronically.

For document upload, the following file formats are accepted: Microsoft Word (.doc and .docx) , PDF (.pdf), text files (.rtf and .txt) and image files (.jpg, .png or .tif)

What documents should I submit to use my benefits?

First Time and Returning Military Connected Student

  • Dallas College Registration Receipt (eConnect login required) – Submit every semester you want to claim your educational benefits
  • Program of Study (POS) – Program of Study (eConnect – login required). It is required to receive any VA education benefits that a program of study (POS) be designated, and all classes are required by the POS.
  • Certificate of Eligibility – VA Certificate of Eligibility or a printout from va.gov showing current eligibility and remaining benefits. Dated within 12 months.
  • Military Transcripts – Required for all veterans-Confirmation page showing official transcripts have been ordered from the Joint Military Transcripts (JST) or Community College of the Air Force (CCAF).
  • DD 214 -- Recommended -- Service 2 or Member 4 copy showing: Home of record, place of entry, dates of service and character of discharge. *Not required for VA benefits but highly encouraged for benefits counseling and other college processes or outside benefits.

Step 2. Submit Benefits Request Form

Submit a Benefits Request Form (Dallas College student ID required) and attach all required documents. Incomplete submissions cannot be processed.

Receive Follow Up Information

You will receive follow up information regarding your submissions and any additional requirements through your Dallas College email account.

Report Any Enrollment Changes

Report all enrollment changes to MilitaryDist@DallasCollege.edu, include your name, student ID, a quick overview of the changes and a copy of your updated Registration Summary.

Submit New Benefits Request Form Each Semster

For each following semester you must submit a new online Benefits Request form. This is required for both VA and Hazlewood benefits and allows us to ensure all criteria are met and you are receiving the correct benefits and assistance
