About Dr. Joe May

Selected as the seventh chancellor of the former Dallas County Community College District, Dr. Joe May assumed his duties in late February 2014. Throughout his career, May has expanded opportunities for students who want to pursue a bachelor’s degree by starting at a community college. At the same time, he brings a strong commitment to improving the Dallas economy by helping to grow middle-class jobs. He is known both nationally and internationally as a result of his relentless advocacy for the role of community colleges in solving today’s most challenging social issues.

Dr. May Comments on DACA Announcement

Following the announcement today by President Donald Trump that the DACA program – Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals – will end, Dr. Joe May, shared a message with all Dallas College students and employees. He reassured DACA students, in particular, that he and the district stands behind them – that they are not alone.

Dallas College Gets the Green Light on First Bachelor’s Degree

“Students in our area now can choose a quality, affordable bachelor’s degree in early childhood education,” said Dr. Joe May. “It also supports the governor’s goal to provide quality prekindergarten for our youngest Texans, and it comes at no additional fiscal cost for the state.”

Early College High Schools

In June 2016, Dr. May shared how Dallas College and Dallas ISD are partnering to open eight new Early College High Schools.
