Sustainability has three major components: Equity, Environment, and Economy. All three components are interconnected and all three must be strong and healthy to have a thriving local and global society. If one area is ailing, it negatively affects the other two areas. (Think of sustainability as a three-legged stool; all three legs must be strong, or the stool cannot support its load.)

Our Top Five Sustainability Successes

  • We purchase 100 percent renewable energy electricity.
  • We have established a comprehensive energy efficiency program designed to speed our transition to Net Zero Energy use.
  • Our sustainable procurement program teaches hundreds of employees how to reduce our carbon footprint by choosing sustainable products and buying locally (within 500 miles) whenever possible.
  • We offer scores of free education and engagement programs to our students, faculty, employees, and community (Annual Sustainability Summit, webinars, and activities).
  • We are the only two-year institution in Texas to earn an Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE) Sustainability Tracking, Assessment and Rating System (STARS) rating. The rating we received in 2022 is Silver. We are working to achieve a Gold or Platinum rating in 2024.

Dallas College is working to become an environmental and sustainability leader in our community and continues to advocate for the wise use of natural, financial, and human resources through mindful education and actions. Our commitment to sustainability impacts our everyday decisions from our academic offerings to our architecture and campus operations. We also have incorporated the United Nations 17 Sustainable Goals (SDGs) as part of our college’s strategic sustainability plan.

Our Why

The world needs more people who understand and act on the knowledge that we already have all the solutions we need to achieve:

  • An equitable society
  • A healthy environment, and
  • A thriving economy

By educating, encouraging, and empowering our 120,000+ students each to practice sustainability in their personal and professional lives, we are teaching them how to be the change they wish to see in the world.

Why We Need Your Support

Each year, our college hosts events and activities that provide knowledge, information, and training that highlight equity, economy, and environmental initiatives, innovations, and ingenuities. Our outreach activities connect our college networks, communities, and partnering organizations. These events and initiatives will reach thousands of individuals. Your sponsorship support will assist us in scaling programming and providing resources for our sustainability initiatives that are beyond what the college can support. We have created the Sustainable Dallas College Sponsorship Program for organizations that have similar educational, communication, and outreach goals.
