Course Rubrics and Teaching Degrees

Education courses are listed under the four-letter rubrics (course prefixes):

Note: Education courses are included in the four Associate of Arts in Teaching degrees offered by Dallas College. These programs are sometimes called Teacher Preparation or Teacher Education.

Education Courses

Education courses help develop an understanding of how people learn and develop throughout life. Learning Framework is an interdisciplinary course that addresses critical thinking and application of learning strategies. Other Education courses include an introduction to the teaching profession, principles and practices of multicultural education and introduction to special populations.

Texas Early Childhood Articulation

Texas Early Childhood Articulation (TECA) is a separate rubric of specialized courses for working with children from infancy through age 12. It includes skills for dealing with children, families, communities and schools, including parent education, lifestyles, child abuse and family life issues. Students participate in field experiences with varied and diverse populations in these age groups.

Associate of Arts in Teaching Degrees (Teacher Preparation/Education)

Associate of Arts in Teaching (A.A.T.) degrees are designed to transfer to baccalaureate (four-year) programs that lead to initial Texas teacher certification. Sometimes listed by individual colleges as Teacher Preparation or Teacher Education, these degrees are approved by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB).

Students who complete the 42 hour credits of the Core Curriculum are assured by Texas state law that transfer is guaranteed to any Texas public college or university.
