Application and Admission to the Program

MLT courses begin in mid-May of each academic year. Over a 16-month period, you’ll take lecture, lab and clinical course work.

There are a limited number of spaces available in each beginning class of the Medical Laboratory Technology program, which starts in May of each year. The prequalifying application period is Jan. 1 to March 15 of each year.

Acceptance to allied health programs is by a competitive selection process. 

To apply to specified allied health programs, including this one, you must meet the conditions of one of the following three eligibility categories before the application deadline. (Note: this is a general summary only; contact us for complete eligibility guidelines.)

  1. Completion of the six Health Professions Readiness courses: three courses each in the Health Professions Readiness I Skills Achievement Award and Health Professions Readiness II Skills Achievement Award.  

    Health Professions Readiness courses are listed under HPRS in the online catalog.

  2. Documentation of a minimum of two years' employment within the last five years as a health care worker in specified health care professions with direct patient care experience. 
  3. Documentation of a current credential in specified health care professions.

Drug Testing and Criminal Background Check

All students enrolled in allied health programs are required by Dallas/Fort Worth Hospital Council member facilities to undergo drug testing and a criminal background check after admission to the program.

Class Locations for El Centro Allied Health Programs

Classes for the Medical Laboratory Technology and Paramedic programs are held at the El Centro Downtown Campus, 801 Main St.

Classes in Dental Hygiene are held at the Paramount Building, 301 N. Market St, Dallas.

All other allied health programs at El Centro hold classes in the Downtown Health Sciences Center (formerly El Centro Center for Allied Health and Nursing), 301 N. Market St. in the West End District of downtown Dallas, one block north of the El Centro Downtown Campus.
