Event: El Valor de mi vida (The value of my life) by Jennifer Godinez Exhibit Closing Day
Dallas College’s Gallery Program, part of the School of Creative Arts, Entertainment, and Design (CAED) is excited to announce Jennifer Godinez’s solo show El Valor de mi vida (The value of my life) at the H. Paxton Moore Fine Art Gallery.
Born in Mexico and raised in the United States, the artist also known as VNA, has a practice shaped by the experience of moving between cultures and systems of belonging. Her work explores themes of visibility, identity, and displacement through expressive self-portraiture and surreal compositions. Positioned between multiple worlds, she reflects on what it means to search for belongings while navigating spaces that feel both familiar and estranged.
Working primarily in Sumi ink, VNA leans into the medium’s sharp contrasts and subtle tonal shifts. Gray washes and dry-brush textures mirror the uncertainty of immigrant identity, which she describes as an emotional in-between where clarity and ambiguity coexist.
Using recurring self-portraits, quiet humor, and unexpected visual pairings, VNA invites viewers into a space that feels both familiar and unsettled. Her work reflects the vulnerability and strength of those who live across borders, both geographically and internally.
Exhibitions run January 20 – February 27. Campus Galleries are open Monday – Friday 10am-4pm. Please contact Galleries@dallascollege.edu for any questions.
