The Gallery Program at Dallas College is excited to present As I Rise, a solo exhibition by Dallas College photography alumna Nietta Reynolds, in the North Lake Art Gallery at North Lake Campus. Step into the gallery this spring to witness these beautiful visual testimonies from women native to South Dallas celebrating strength, healing, and resilience in this black and white photography show.
From the artist: "As I Rise Through the As I Rise series, I aim to celebrate the strength, resilience, and beauty of women from South Dallas—women who continue to rise above systemic challenges with grace and determination. These photographs are more than portraits; they are visual testimonies of transformation, empowerment, and survival. The flower serves as a central symbol throughout the work, representing the life cycles of growth, renewal, and the ability to flourish in difficult circumstances. Like flowers that bloom in harsh environments, the women in this series embody resilience and hope, their stories rooted in both struggle and triumph. By pairing each portrait with personal narratives, my intention is to foster a deeper understanding of their experiences and contributions to their communities. As I Rise invites viewers to reflect on their own perceptions of resilience and identity, creating a space for empathy, dialogue, and healing. Ultimately, this work honors the power of rising and thriving despite adversity—an enduring testament to the human spirit."
Join the gallery team in the North Lake Art Gallery on Wednesday, February 18th from 12-2pm for a reception and brief artist talk from Nietta Reynolds.
The exhibition opens on Monday, January 20th, and will be on view through Friday, February 27th. Gallery hours are Monday through Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. For more information, please contact: galleries@dallascollege.edu
