This pathway is designed to meet the needs of students who plan to major in Music and transfer to a four-year college/university. This curriculum applies to the Bachelor of Music degree but also may be applied to the Bachelor of Arts or other baccalaureate-level music degrees as deemed appropriate by the awarding institution.

This is an example course sequence for students interested in Music. It does not represent a contract, nor does it guarantee course availability. Following this pathway will help you earn an A.A. degree. Students must earn at least 25% of the credit hours (15 hours) required for graduation through instruction by Dallas College. MUSI 1311 – Music Theory I*

MUSI 1116 – Sight Singing and Ear Training I*

MUEN 11XX or 21XX – Music Ensemble Course**

ENGL 1301 – Composition I This is a (CB010) Core course. Must earn a grade of “C” or higher.

EDUC 1300 – Learning Framework*** All college students with fewer than 12 semester credit hours of successful college credit (grade of “C” or above) must take a student success course in the first semester. This is a (CB090) Core course.

GOVT 2305 – Federal Government This is a (CB070) Core course.

* Music majors should take these courses in their first or second semester to avoid delays in degree completion.

NOTE: Music transfer degree programs almost always require MUAP 22xx level applied lessons every semester on a primary instrument or voice, but some music transfer degree programs require MUAP 23xx-level lessons for performance majors. Furthermore, almost all transfer programs require students to successfully audition on their primary instrument or voice to be admitted to the program. MUAP Applied lessons help to prepare students to successfully audition. Students should consult the specific university transfer guides to determine program requirements. Many transfer programs also require MUSI 1181 Piano Class I, MUSI 1182 Piano Class II, MUSI 2181 Piano Class III, and MUSI 2182 Piano Class IV.
