Dallas College Named Bellwether Award Finalist for Student Care Network

Dec. 5, 2025

Dallas College has been selected as a national finalist for the 2026 Bellwether Award in the category of Instructional Programs and Services. It’s a recognition that highlights the most innovative and effective programs in community colleges across the country. This year, the consortium received a record 114 submissions from 91 community colleges across 30 states.

Dallas College earned its spot for groundbreaking Student Care Network, a systemwide effort designed to remove barriers that can prevent students from staying enrolled and completing their education.

“Dallas College Student Care Network is the foundation of our students’ success,” said Dr. Beatriz Joseph, vice chancellor of student success. “By addressing basic needs for food, health and security, we are actively dismantling obstacles that prevent learning while caring for the whole student. The result is sustained academic success and achievement.”

During a national competition to be held Feb. 22-24, in San Antonio, Texas, teams from the finalist colleges will conduct presentations that share how they have significantly addressed a critical issue affecting community colleges. They will be scored by a jury of anonymous judges, fellow community college practitioners and CEOs to come up with one Bellwether recipient in each of three categories: “Instructional Programs and Services,” “Workforce Development and Planning” and “Planning, Governance and Finance.”

Bellwether College Consortium is comprised of award-winning colleges charged with addressing critical issues facing community colleges through applicable research and the promotion and replication of best practices.
