The two largest community colleges in North Texas cemented an agreement Wednesday to address the region's record-breaking job creation and boost economic vitality.

Maris Rodriguez was a high school dropout and didn’t think she had much of a future. Because of Dallas College and the STEM Institute, Maris has been rejuvenated with life and is now pursuing a dream of working for NASA. Maris recently was part of the NASA Community College Aerospace Scholars program at the Ames Research Center in California.

Chief Puente brings a wealth of experience in higher education, municipal law enforcement and corporate security.

At the national competition, students showcase their leadership abilities as well as skills learned through career and technical education.

Dr. Macario Hernandez will lead Mountain View Campus in southwestern Dallas County, and Dr. Madeline Burillo-Hopkins will lead Brookhaven Campus in Farmers Branch.

Dallas College welcomes District 7 trustee Dr. Kesha O'Reilly, congratulates reelected District 1 trustee Dr. Catalina E. Garcia and honors retiring District 7 trustee Charletta Compton.

Dallas College students ended the Spring 2024 semester with awards and accolades. Thirty-one students brought home gold from SkillsUSA, students returned from Phi Theta Kappa Catalyst with 15 top honors and fashion students highlighted their creations for 400 guests at the Future of Showcase. Award-winning pastry student Ainsley Roberts is headed to the French Alps for a summer internship.

The search for new presidents of the Brookhaven and Mountain View campuses is currently underway.

Tiffany Gardner and daughter Angelika both earned associate degrees in Business Administration and will graduate with honors.

Carmesia Washington started her educational journey at Dallas College in 1998, attending classes at the Mountain View Campus. However, she started a family and had a successful career working in IT, which put college on the back burner. Then, one day her high school-aged daughter pushed Washington to pursue her dreams of becoming a teacher.

The six graduating students chosen as speakers will share their experiences, challenges and triumphs.

Dr. Carlos Cruz will join 39 other education leaders from across the country aspiring to become college presidents.
