Tiffany Gardner and daughter Angelika both earned associate degrees in Business Administration and will graduate with honors.

Carmesia Washington started her educational journey at Dallas College in 1998, attending classes at the Mountain View Campus. However, she started a family and had a successful career working in IT, which put college on the back burner. Then, one day her high school-aged daughter pushed Washington to pursue her dreams of becoming a teacher.

The six graduating students chosen as speakers will share their experiences, challenges and triumphs.

Dr. Carlos Cruz will join 39 other education leaders from across the country aspiring to become college presidents.

Tiffiya Samuel moved from India to the United States as a middle school student and had to go through language and cultural obstacles before coming to Dallas College. Through the Student Government Association, Tiffiya found mentorship, became vice president, and developed a passion for helping other students succeed. Tiffiya is pursuing a nursing degree from her desire of wanting to serve others and to meet a promise with her grandfather, working to break barriers across campus.

Emmanuel Tobias was among a contingent from Dallas College that visited Universidad Creativa (UCreativa) in Costa Rica last fall. The colleges are working toward a partnership for study abroad opportunities that would allow Dallas College students to study in Costa Rica through the Office of International Engagement and Global Competitiveness.

The Blazers won 23 straight games to close the season, including a 74-61 victory over New York-based Herkimer College to win the national championship. That marked the fifth national championship in program history as the Blazers became the first NJCAA school at any of the three levels with five titles.

Jaime Resendez overcame economic hardship and military service in Iraq to build a successful career, crediting Dallas College with giving him the confidence and foundation to pursue higher education. He earned degrees from Dallas College, UNT Dallas, and the University of Texas, eventually becoming an attorney and Dallas City Council Member. Resendez now advocates for greater education access and encourages students to stay persistent, work hard, and keep opportunities open through education.

Dallas College has been recognized by the State Board for Educator Certification (SBEC) in the Innovative Educator Preparation category for the 2022-2023 award year.

Dr. Meagan Pollock knows what it feels like to be the only woman in the classroom, or the conference room. She lived it as one of a handful of women, at the time, who pursued a career in computer science and engineering. That’s why Pollock has pivoted from her engineering career to become an educator and advocate for all, including women and people of color, to pursue STEM careers.

Dallas College is the first community college to receive recognition as an "innovator" by the State Board for Educator Certification.

Arianna Villarreal never would have envisioned having her voice heard by some of the nation’s top politicians, but she had that platform as one of four students sent by Dallas College to the National Legislative Summit in Washington, D.C., last month. Villarreal delivered a strong message on the importance of community colleges.

Dallas College has planned a leadership conference, an event about women in technology and other activities this March.
