Program Overview
Work-Study Award Amount
The amount of your College Work-Study award will be determined by your financial need (must have a minimum of $3,520 unmet need), based on your financial aid budget and Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) information. Financial need is defined as the difference between the total cost of attendance and Student Aid Index (SAI), determined by the FAFSA and other current financial aid awards.
Pay Structure, Hours and Maximum Allowed Earnings
For the 2025-2026 school year, the pay rate for the work-study student assistant position is $23.78 per hour, and students may work up to a maximum of 19.5 hours per week. Students may earn up to their awarded amount. Students cannot earn over their approved work-study award amount. Since total earnings are based on a collegewide work-study allocation, please be aware the amount you are allowed to earn could be less than the amount awarded to you.
Work-Study Employment Opportunities
College Work-Study jobs may be on or off campus. Most College Work-Study jobs offered by Dallas College are housed on campus at the seven main campus locations or at our centers. On-campus work-study student assistants are generally placed in one of the following roles:
Administrative Support — Student Assistant
The Administrative Support — Student Assistant provides essential clerical and administrative support to a college department, ensuring the efficient operation of daily office functions. This role offers students the opportunity to develop professional office skills in a supportive campus environment.

Instructional Support — Student Assistant
The Instructional Support — Student Assistant role supports faculty, staff, administrators and students in an academic setting, enhancing the learning environment through direct assistance with course materials, lab activities or tutoring. This position provides an opportunity to deepen understanding of academic subjects and develop teaching/mentoring skills.
Examples of departments using this student assistant role may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Math, Science and Business Labs
- Intercultural Network
- Writing Center
- Computer Science Lab
- Learning Commons
- Speech Lab

Specialized Support — Student Assistant
The Specialized Support — Student Assistant provides targeted assistance requiring specific skills or knowledge to a college department. This role allows students to apply and enhance specialized abilities in a practical setting, contributing to unique departmental projects or operations.

- Campus President’s Office
- Computer Science and Information Technology
- Campus Support Services
- Major-Specific (i.e., Aviation, Culinary Arts, Human Resources)
