Who qualifies?
The Senior Tuition Waiver, provided by the state of Texas, is available to eligible students 65 years of age or older. It allows enrollment in up to six credit hours per semester, provided students meet the eligibility criteria, including:
- Age 65 at time of registration (not first day of class)
- Texas resident for at least 12 months
- Current Dallas County resident with proof
- Non-degree-seeking status (You are not pursuing a degree or certificate.)
- Not applying for financial aid
- Must meet Dallas College academic standards to continue eligibility
For students under 65 years old, standard tuition rates apply to all credit courses.
What paperwork or documentation do I need?
You’ll need a copy of a valid photo ID. If you visit us in person, we can make a copy for you.
Do I have to apply every semester?
No. However, if you have not been enrolled in a credit class for 12 months, you will need to submit a new application.
Which classes qualify for the Senior Tuition Waiver?
The Senior Tuition Waiver applies to any credit class offered at Dallas College. It cannot be used for tuition-based continuing education classes. In the online class schedule, look for credit classes that are open enrollment courses, which older adults can also take.
How do I know how many credit hours a class is worth?
In the online class schedule, each course lists its number of credit hours — typically ranging from one to four.
What if I take more than six credit hours in a semester?
You’ll pay the difference for any credit hours beyond the six covered by the waiver.
