“I have 18 years of experience in high-risk obstetrical sonography and have performed over 30,000 ultrasound scans in my career. As the co-owner and clinical director of BB Imaging & Healthcare Consulting, I oversee more than 8,000 scans a year while my company serves more than 40 providers. None of this would have been possible without my educational foundation at El Centro.

“When I attended the program, I knew that I wanted to be in health care but could not have imagined the impact I would be able to have in communities that are typically underserved by ultrasound. The knowledge and expertise that my company possesses in data analysis, process improvements and systems implementations, combined with our passion to provide high-quality service to all socioeconomic groups, have resulted in setting up hospital departments and outreach clinics with one of the biggest national health care organizations.

“The Society of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers has awarded my passion for research, learning, and teaching to serve as a model for recognition of clinical excellence and standards of excellence in ultrasound specialties by designating me as an Advanced Practice Sonographer in 2013. I continue to take the learning I obtained while at Dallas College and share it with new students entering the field, and I am hopeful that I will be able to continue to impact the health care community at large.”

Medical Laboratory Technician Methodist Medical Center of Dallas
“My first experience at community college was taking ESL classes at Richland and Brookhaven, which were close to where I lived. Then when I started exploring what kind of program I wanted to take for a career change, I saw Medical Laboratory Technology and transferred to El Centro ... I always tell people who are thinking about community college to think about Medical Laboratory Technology, and I tell them about my personal experience with the program. It’s a stable job, in a quiet environment with a lot less stress than many other medically related fields, and the people are very friendly and professional. I really love my job.”
