Student Experience: Dale W. Greer, D.D.S., FAGD

“I wanted to be a dentist since the age of 13. My parents were not able to pay for my college education, and in 1971, Dallas College not only made it possible for me to get a start in college — I was accepted to Baylor College of Dentistry purely from my grades at Dallas College. Once I completed dental school, I received a Doctor of Dental Surgery (D.D.S.) degree.

“Unlike a large university, Dallas College provided small class sizes and one-on-one teaching and tutoring from professors like Charlie Freeman (organic chemistry) and Jack Pierce (biology). I truly fell in love with learning at Mountain View because of the small community feel and the eagerness of the professors to teach.

“Without the community college system, I may never have been able to reach my goals and fulfill my dreams to practice dentistry. I was able to live at home and work my way through school.

“Dentistry fits my temperament perfectly. I am totally fulfilled in my profession, which I’ve practiced for 30 years. It’s a career that lets me continually learn and grow, and I enjoy dealing with people one-on-one. Much of the credit must be given to Dallas College. I would highly recommend the community college system for anyone who wants to achieve their dreams.”

Dr. Dale Greer has worked as a dentist in private practice with an emphasis in cosmetic dentistry since 1977. He took Core courses at Dallas College, concentrating on science to accomplish early entry into Baylor College of Dentistry. He is one of only 247 dentists worldwide who holds accreditation in the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry. He was named D Magazine’s Best Dentist in Dallas in 2003 and 2007 and Texas Monthly’s Super Dentist from 2004 to 2007, and won America’s Top Dentist Award in 2003-2007. He served on the board of directors of the Dallas County Dental Society in 2003 and 2007 and has served as an adjunct faculty member of the preceptor program of Baylor College of Dentistry since 2002.
