Student Experience: Kevin Boykin

Kevin's love for video games began as soon as he could hold a controller. Growing up with attention deficit disorder (ADD), playing video games helped him deal with the disorder. “It was always something I could easily grasp.“

Those games included Super Nintendo titles like The Legend of Zelda: A Link To The Past, Super Mario World and Secret of Mana. After two years of college, and several majors later, he stumbled into Richland's Interactive Simulation and Game Technology program. Kevin had never taken an art class before, so he was surprised to find his niche in Character Sculpting, although that didn't stop him from learning how to code in C# Unity as well as becoming a valuable asset on the program's Level Design teams.

Kevin has also been a project leader for three featured games: The Estate, Celly and Night on the Express.

“I’ve seen friends leave STEM because they didn’t believe in themselves. I tell them, if I can do it with everything going on in my life, you can too. That matters to me.”
