Student Experience: Lisa Cooper

“Going to Richland was a great experience for me. I have made lasting friendships that have stood the test of time. Being an alumnus of MT's program has created this special bond between so many of us that, even if we're not close friends, we all are so willing to help each other. MT and the HEEM program have created this lasting network that keeps expanding and connects so many of us. It's a great feeling.

“Before finishing at Richland, I had already started working with an international association located in the DFW area on their BOD meetings and international conference and exhibitions.

“I was surprised how many avenues there really are in the travel and meeting industries until I was years deep into the business. Networking really opened my eyes and ears. Look for those opportunities to expand your knowledge base in the travel, event, and meeting industry.“

Lisa Cooper earned her associate degree in Meeting Management from Richland in 2000. She is a Sales and Marketing Specialist with Premier Transportation Services. Previously, Lisa worked in association management, corporate management and account management for multiple DMCs.

“My experience was really good; I learned a lot about different types of loans, underwriting and loan origination. The program gave us a broad overview from the get-go. I didn’t have any previous experience in mortgage banking at all, so it really helped me to prepare for changing jobs into the industry.”

“The most important thing I learned in my education was a sense of accomplishment and purpose, and that nothing is impossible as long as I am willing to expend the effort to reach my goals. I have been promoted a number of times in recent years, into positions of more and more responsibility as a direct result of my education.”
