“I started cooking at the age of 12 and ever since have known I wanted to be a chef. I completed an internship at the Hyatt Regency Dallas while in high school, received an associate degree in Culinary Arts from El Centro and then earned a bachelor’s degree in hotel restaurant management from the Conrad N. Hilton College of Hotel Restaurant Management at the University of Houston. I hope to become a food and beverage director for a major hotel chain and one day own my own restaurant.”

After graduating from Duncanville High School in 2005, Loren earned an associate degree in Culinary Arts from El Centro in the spring of 2008. Her first professional cooking job was at Hilton Garden Inn as a breakfast and banquet cook. After graduating from El Centro, she served as pastry chef at Wolfgang Puck Catering and Events in Dallas. Loren is currently the assistant banquet manager at the Hyatt Regency in downtown Houston.

“Taking online classes has been a tremendous help to me in achieving my educational goals. I already had a full plate, but with online classes I am able to work on my assignments any time of the day. It gives me the freedom I need to be able to maintain my family life and my academic endeavors.”

“With my travel schedule it’s really hard to be in a classroom, and even when I’m in town my work hours are erratic. The strong point of taking courses online is the flexibility and freedom. I can just log on and do my homework at home or on the road in a hotel.”

“I’ve learned that it’s never too late for your dreams to come true — you just have to keep pushing. With patience and determination, hard work will pay off. It just takes getting started. Going back to school was definitely one of the best choices I’ve made in my life, and I’m starting to see it pay off.”
