“I’ve always loved working with computers ever since I took my first computer class in high school many years ago. Dallas College allowed me to realize my career dreams. The instructors were great. They really knew their stuff and brought real-world experiences to the classroom.

“After I received my associate degree, my career skyrocketed. It opened doors for me that I never thought were possible unless you had a bachelor’s degree. The most notable accomplishment was when I was recently promoted to assistant vice president of the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas.

“I learned that a Dallas College education can serve as a great foundation to help you meet your career goals, whether those goals are to go on and get your bachelor's degree or to move directly into the employment sector. I achieved both of these goals, and it was my Dallas College education that made it all possible.

“I meet people all the time who are very successful in their careers, and many of them received their education from Dallas College. We are all real-world examples of what a Dallas College education can do for your career.”

Tommy Alsbrooks earned an associate degree in CIT - Programming and graduated cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in finance in August 2006 from the University of Texas at Dallas.

“Some people in non-STEM majors reject the idea of being in a STEM organization because they feel they aren’t smart enough or talented enough. I’m not the smartest or most talented person in the room, but I’m curious, and that’s more than enough. Don't let your own sense of limitation stop you.”

Dallas College student Bachelor’s Degree of Applied Technology
“After being homeschooled and graduating high school with dual credit prerequisites already done, I went straight into the workforce, no intention of getting a degree. I worked in a warehouse for about a year and thought about going into welding, but I injured my back. ... At that point I decided to go for my associate degree, which I accomplished, and now I’m working to get my bachelor’s degree of applied technology in software development this fall. I love that I can do it 100% online because I also take care of my family every day.”
