You can change your Challenge Question in eConnect at any time on the Update My Challenge Question screen on the Current Credit or Continuing Education/Workforce Training Menu (requires log in).
You must be able to answer your current Challenge Question in order to use this screen.
If you forget your Challenge Question answer, you will be required to submit a written request and provide personal identification to your campus Admissions/Registrar or CE office in order to reset it manually.
Please keep in mind that your Challenge Question answer must be something that only you would know. It should be something that could not be easily guessed by someone else.
Please treat your Challenge Question/Answer as you would your SSN or ATM PIN number.
For security reasons, Dallas College encourages students to create a "strong eConnect password". A strong password is a password that is difficult for others to determine by guessing or by using automated programs. Use strong passwords with any accounts accessing confidential information.
- Strong passwords should be at least 12 characters in length.
- Strong passwords should appear to be a random string of characters.
- Strong passwords must contain a combination of letters (small and capital), numbers and special characters.
- Strong passwords should be easy for you to remember and type, but difficult for others to guess. The passwords below may be helpful in creating stronger passwords:
- Do not use your name, login name, your children/spouse/pet's name, your birthday or your phone number, or other common information about yourself or your family which could be easily known or guessed.
- Do not use dictionary-based words (in any language) because hackers use sophisticated tools that can rapidly guess passwords that are based on words in the dictionary, in a variety of languages, and even for words spelled backwards. (Note: do not use common words or names even if they are not found in a dictionary.)
- Do not add numbers (before and/or after) to dictionary-based words or common words/names.
- Do no use common words with letters replaced by numbers or symbols, such as "Password1234", "Abcd12345678", "QWERTyuiop!@#$".

Protecting your financial and personal account information is our top priority. eConnect has taken many precautions in order to ensure that all communications and information we have regarding your personal information are protected. These include the following measures:
Individualized Password:
eConnect requires that you create a password to use with your Student ID in order to access your account. Your password is not displayed when entered. This information is encrypted during transmission. (See SSL encryption below.) It is your responsibility not to disclose your password to anyone. After 6 consecutive failed password attempts, your account will be disabled for 45 minutes. You will receive an email notification when your password has been changed or reset.
(See Enhanced Security below for additional information that may pertain to your password.) Challenge Question:
For additional security, all users are required to have a Challenge Question on file in eConnect. This is another way to verify that you are the authorized user of the account. Your Challenge Question answer is not displayed when entered. Your Challenge Question must be answered each time you change your Challenge Question. After six consecutive failed attempts to answer your Challenge Question, your Challenge Question will be disabled for 45 minutes. You will receive an email notification if your account has been disabled or when your Challenge Question has been added/changed.
Enhanced Security:
If you enable this optional security feature, you will be required to answer your Challenge Question before you will be able to update your email address online. After six consecutive failed attempts to answer your Challenge Question, your account will be disabled for 45 minutes. You will receive an email notification if your account has been disabled or when your Challenge Question has been added/changed.

Timed Logout
Although you should always log out when you are finished to reduce the risk of others accessing your information, eConnect automatically ends your session after 10 minutes of inactivity.
Online Banking Transactions:
As an added security measure, only the last 4 digits of your debit/credit card or bank account number will be displayed back to you on eConnect screens. This prevents someone else from being able to view your complete account number.
Updating your information/email notifications:
eConnect provides mechanisms for updating and correcting your personally identifying information for many online services. To help you monitor this activity, email notifications are sent to the email address you have on file in eConnect whenever the following occurs:
- Account Set Up

Please do not attempt to access your account during this time period as it will only extend the time your account is disabled.
It is highly recommended that you use the Forgot/Reset My Password screen before attempting to log in again. If you are unable to use this screen, please see the FAQ: How do I manually reset my password?
eConnect requires that you create a password to use with your Student ID# in order to log in to your account. Your password is used to access secure online applications and personal information about you at the Dallas College, including:
- Personal information (name, address, phone number, e-mail address, emergency contact information, which could include the names of family members, etc.)
- Student records (classes taken, grades, degree plans, etc.)
- Financial information (tuition, financial aid, access to change bank account/routing numbers for fund disbursement, etc.)
It is very important that you protect your password so that someone else cannot impersonate you or steal your identity. Your password is the only way to verify that someone logging in with your Student ID# is really you. If someone steals or guesses your password and logs into your eConnect account and makes changes, there is no way to prove that those changes were not performed by you; i.e., someone could log in as you and register or drop classes on your schedule; change your banking information and steal your financial aid, etc.
You can protect your password by following a few simple guidelines:
- DO create a strong password.
- DO create a password that you can remember so you won't have to write it down.
- DO change your password regularly.
- DO log off when you are finished using eConnect.
- DON'T use personal/obvious information such as any part of your name, address, birth date, etc. in your password, challenge question or hint.
- DON'T use a password hint that would let someone else know or "guess" your password. If someone knows your Student ID#, and intentionally or inadvertently enters it on the eConnect "Log In" screen, they can see your password hint.
- DON'T include your password in e-mail.
- DON'T share your password with ANYONE.
NOTE: Dallas College staff NEVER need to know your eConnect password. Only in rare situations will Dallas College staff request your permission to change your password temporarily during a support call. Once the problem is resolved, you will use the Self-Service Password Reset (SSPR); to create a new password and log in to eConnect. As a security measure, an e-mail notification will be sent to you each time your password is reset or changed.
