DALLAS – Today Dallas College was awarded the 2026 Leader College of Distinction status by Achieving the Dream (ATD), one of the most respected student success organizations in higher education.

The national designation recognizes colleges that deliver sustained, measurable gains in student outcomes while advancing student success and economic mobility in their communities. Institutions earning the honor demonstrate strong completion and retention rates, a culture of data-informed decision-making and proven strategies that close achievement gaps.

This marks the first time Dallas College has received the distinction. Dr. Shawnda Floyd, provost and vice chancellor of workforce education at Dallas College, said the award is a powerful validation of the college’s transformation and its unwavering commitment to helping more students start strong, stay on track and complete credentials that lead to high-demand, high-wage careers.

“Earning the 2026 Leader College of Distinction designation affirms the bold work happening across Dallas College to remove barriers, redesign systems and put students first,” said Floyd. “We are not just improving outcomes — we are transforming lives. This recognition reinforces our commitment to expanding economic mobility in North Texas and accelerating progress toward our 2030 Strategic Vision.”

Created in 2018, the Leader College of Distinction designation highlights institutions that show sustained excellence over time. Colleges must demonstrate momentum in key metrics such as course success and retention, as well as strong completion outcomes.

“The 2026 Leader Colleges of Distinction demonstrate sustained commitment and measurable progress in advancing student success,” said Dr. Karen A. Stout, president and CEO of Achieving the Dream. “By using data to guide decisions and continuously strengthen their practices, these institutions are producing real gains in student outcomes, strengthening their practices and deepening their impact in the communities they serve. Their leadership sets a powerful example for colleges across the ATD Network, reflecting the focus, discipline and follow through required to achieve lasting institutional change.”

The recognition also reflects Dallas College’s deep commitment to strengthening the regional workforce and expanding economic opportunity. Through industry-aligned programs, employer partnerships and innovative training pathways, the college continues to serve as a catalyst for talent development across North Texas.
