Celebrate Constitution Day at Dallas College (and Get Ready To Vote!)

What do the U.S. Constitution and your vote have in common? They’re both powerful tools that help shape our democracy. On Constitution Day, Sept. 17, join Dallas College for fun, interactive events that explore the rights, freedoms and responsibilities that connect us as citizens.

And with midterm elections coming up in November, it's also the perfect time to make sure you're registered and ready to vote. Whether you're casting your first ballot or your fifth, read below to help get election-ready.

Constitution Day Events – Sept. 17

Constitution Day Games

This fun and interactive Constitution Day celebration will feature Constitution-themed bingo, trivia and an escape room challenge. Test your civic knowledge, compete for prizes and learn more about the U.S. Constitution.

Liberty, Justice and the Hive

10 a.m.-12 p.m.
Eastfield Campus – S100–S101

This exciting Constitution Day event combines an interactive escape room challenge with meaningful civic dialogue. Work in teams to solve Constitution-themed puzzles, answer civic knowledge questions and navigate campus using QR-code clues as you race to restore the principles of democracy (and win prizes!). Following the competition, we’ll have refreshments and a faculty and guest speaker will lead a discussion exploring the relevance of constitutional principles and civic participation in today's world.

Join us for an interactive celebration of the U.S. Constitution and how it connects to college life, free expression, a sense of belonging and the power of informed citizenship.

Your Constitutional Rights

Learn how to apply your constitutional rights in real world situations. Professors will go over the Bill of Rights and give examples of the rights in action. You'll have a chance to discuss your own experiences and ask questions.

Constitution Day Escape

Join North Lake Campus for an interactive Constitution Day event featuring an escape room challenge with pizza. Learn about the U.S. Constitution and win American history-themed stickers with fun civic knowledge tests.

Constitution Day Live Podcast and Discussion

2-3 p.m.
Richland Campus – RR1213

Join us for a live podcast-style discussion featuring a moderator and faculty panelists exploring constitutional themes and current issues. Submit questions ahead of the event to help guide the interactive conversation examining how constitutional principles continue to influence today's political and social landscape.

Watch Party: Constitution USA w/Peter Sagal

2-3 p.m.
Brookhaven Campus – B240

Join our watch party for the PBS special, “Constitution USA with Peter Sagal.”  The episode provides an overview of the Bill of Rights and how parts of it are debated today. The watch party will be followed by a discussion and Q&A. Seating is limited.

Democracy in Dialogue: Your Voice, Your Vote, Your Future

Join us for an engaging town hall discussion on Sept. 29 that brings together students, faculty, and distinguished guest speakers to explore the issues shaping our state, nation and democracy.

Whether you're interested in government, current events, voting or public service, this event offers a unique opportunity to engage with experts, ask questions and become a more informed participant in our democracy. Your voice matters, be part of the conversation.

The event will also include:

Voter Registration Opportunities – Representatives from the Dallas County Elections Department will be available to assist eligible participants with voter registration.
Election Equipment Demonstration – First time voters can experience the voting process firsthand through an interactive demonstration of election equipment provided by the Dallas County Elections Department.

Are You Ready To Vote?

Voting gives you power to create positive change in your community and beyond. Decisions made at the federal, state and local level can affect every aspect of your life. By exercising your right to vote, you play a role in holding our elected officials accountable.

Those eligible have until Oct. 5 to register to vote in the Nov. 3 election. Even if you think you are registered, it’s a good idea to double check and ensure all of your information is correct.

Check your registration and find a link to update your registration information
Register to vote
Find out about voting ID requirements and other polling place rules
Locate early voting places, dates and times (available two days prior to first day of early voting)
Learn about voting by mail
Find your Election Day polling location and times
Learn about curbside voting for voters with disabilities

Important dates to keep in mind:

Oct. 5 — Final day to register to vote in the next election
Oct. 12 — Mail ballot application deadline
Oct. 19-30 — Early voting
Nov. 3 — Election Day

Many Dallas College sites are designated voting locations for voters registered in Dallas County. The polls are open from 7 a.m.-7 p.m., except Sunday, Oct. 25, when polls are open noon-6 p.m. If you are in line by before the official closing time, you will be allowed to vote.
