Outside Scholarships

What Are Outside Scholarships?

Outside scholarships are awarded by organizations or individuals outside of Dallas College and the Dallas College Foundation. These may include community groups, businesses, foundations or private donors.

Students receiving an outside scholarship must notify the Scholarship Office so the scholarship funds can be posted to their student account.

Students should contact the donor directly if they will not meet any scholarship requirements, such as an enrollment requirement.

How To Send an Outside Scholarship Payment

Mail checks to:
Dallas College North Lake Campus
5001 N. MacArthur Blvd.
Irving, TX 75038
Attn: Scholarship Office A412

  • Checks must be made payable to Dallas College only.
  • Checks made payable to both the student and Dallas College, or directly to the student, will not be accepted.
  • If scholarship funds are intended to assist with educational expenses, checks should not be sent directly to the student.

Information To Include

Please include the following with the payment:

  • Student’s full name
  • Dallas College ID number
  • Instructions for which academic term(s) the award should be applied to, such as Fall, Spring or Summer
  • How the funds should be used: Donors must select one of the following options:
    • All educational costs: Once the scholarship has been applied to the student’s account, any remaining funds may be released to the student for other educational expenses, such as housing, transportation and supplies.
    • Tuition, fees and books only: Any funds remaining after those charges are paid must be returned to the donor organization. If this option is selected, the donor must provide a copy of a W-9.
Instead of listing these instructions with the payment, donors may complete and submit the Outside Scholarships Stipulation Form (PDF - 160KB).

Scholarship Disbursement

  • Scholarships are typically disbursed at the start of the semester. Checks received after the semester begins are generally processed within seven to 10 business days after the Scholarship Office receives all required documentation, including a stipulation letter or completed stipulation form.
  • Scholarships are disbursed according to the term(s) specified by the donor. If no disbursement schedule is provided, the following guidelines will apply:
    • Payments under $300 will be applied to the academic term closest to the date the funds are received.
    • Payments of $300 or more will be split evenly between the Fall and Spring terms if the student is enrolled in both terms.
    • Scholarship funds are applied to tuition and fees first. Any remaining funds will be refunded to the student unless the donor provides other instructions.

Enrollment Verification

If a donor requires proof of enrollment, students may provide a copy of their class schedule or billing statement from Self Service. Dallas College does not provide this information directly to donors. Students are responsible for sharing it.
