Homeschool Information for Families
The Dallas College Homeschool Dual Credit Program allows eligible homeschool students to earn college credit and high school credit at the same time by taking college-level courses while completing their homeschool education.
Families with an active homeschool agreement work with a dedicated Dallas College homeschool liaison who provides guidance throughout the process each academic year.
What are the benefits?
Dual Credit Opportunities
Eligible students may earn college credits that apply toward both high school completion and a chosen college degree pathway.
Tuition Waivers
Eligible Dallas County residents may receive tuition waivers that cover the cost of tuition. Course-related fees will apply.
Quicklinks
Recommended Courses
Homeschool dual credit students are strongly encouraged to complete courses within the Dallas College Core Curriculum while pursuing an Associate of Arts (A.A.) or Associate of Science (A.S.) degree pathway.
The Core Curriculum is a set of general education courses required by Texas public colleges and universities and is designed to transfer statewide.
Why these degree pathways?
- Courses apply toward most bachelor’s degrees at Texas public universities.
- Core Curriculum courses may also support waiver eligibility and help students progress toward high school graduation requirements.
Unsure about homeschool graduation requirements?
Dallas College does not determine homeschool graduation requirements. Families are encouraged to consult a local homeschool co-op or the Texas Education Agency (TEA) for guidance.
Eligibility Requirements
To qualify for a homeschool dual credit agreement, students must meet the criteria below:
- A parent or guardian must serve as the homeschool official and be responsible for issuing and signing the student’s high school transcript.
- Students must have completed eighth grade. Homeschool agreements cannot begin during the summer immediately following eighth grade. Students may begin enrolling in the Fall semester after completing eighth grade.
- The student's family must be considered a Texas resident.
- Homeschool agreements cannot be initiated if the student is already enrolled in an accredited online or in-person high school program.
Still unsure if you qualify?
You are considered eligible if the parent or guardian determines how many credits are awarded on the high school transcript and signs the transcript as the homeschool official.
Not eligible for a homeschool agreement?
Students may still enroll through concurrent enrollment. Please note that concurrent enrollment awards college credit only and does not apply toward high school credit.
