For the purposes of posting and filling vacant positions and/or setting salaries, required work experience is always defined as full-time experience in the specified area and/or occupation reflected in the official job description.
The equivalencies for experience below have been established by the Human Resources Marketing team (based in part on Department of Labor Standards) to provide a consistent model for use when screening Applications for Employment to determine if experiences not clearly stated as full-time fulfill the minimum requirements for the position and can also be used as a go-by for determining salary schedule placement.
Unless indicated, experience gained in the following roles can be counted as indicated:
- Part-time work/adjunct teaching — Two (2) years of part-time experience equals one year of full-time experience.
- Volunteer work — No credit is counted for work experience but can be used for skills required.
- Paid internship — Two (2) years of service as a paid intern equals one (1) year of full-time work experience.
- Unpaid internship — No experience is counted for unpaid internship.
- Student assistant — Credit for related experience; two (2) years equals one (1) year of full-time work experience.
- Contract work — Two (2) years of experience equals one (1) year of full-time work experience.
- Consultant — Two (2) years of experience equals one (1) year of full-time work experience.
- Self-employment (subject to verification) — Two (2) years of experience equals one (1) year of full-time experience.
- Faculty — Two (2) years of adjunct teaching (two semesters in one year being equivalent to one year of experience) equals one (1) year of teaching experience.
- Teaching assistant — Two (2) years of experience equals one (1) year experience (teaching-credit if demonstrated).
- Instructional assistant/assistant — Teaching credit if demonstrated.
- Substitute teaching — Two (2) years of high school teaching experience or four (4) years of public school experience equals one (1) year teaching experience.
- Visiting scholar — Equal time (1 to 1). Additionally, for visiting scholar faculty, time served in a visiting scholar role may be counted toward a multiyear faculty contract if a continuing faculty position is gained through competitive search with Dallas College.
- Full-time training — 192 hours of training experience equals one (1) year of teaching experience.
- Health Occupations faculty (Nursing, EMT, etc.) — One (1) year of clinical experience equals one (1) year of teaching experience.
- Certification of Mastery from the applicable
Dallas College Career Institute (not including Basic Leadership) equals one (1) year of experience.
