Faculty and Teaching

​​​​​​​​​Faculty and teaching are the backbone of Dallas College and serve a critical role in shaping students' intellectual and professional growth.

What are the criteria for teaching at Dallas College?

Dallas College’s criteria, in accordance wi​th Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges guidelines, are as follows.

Credit


For credit courses designed to transfer to a baccalaureate degree:

  • A master’s degree in the teaching discipline.
  • (A minimum of 18 graduate semester hours in the subject to be taught.)

Workforce Training


For workforce education courses not designed for transfer:

  • A combination of academic preparation and work experience.
  • (Including three years of direct or related work experience other than teaching.)

Developmental


For developmental courses:

  • A bachelor’s degree in the specific teaching discipline and demonstrated competency.
  • (E.g., teaching experience, honors, graduate course work or other related accomplishments.)

Teaching Continuing Education Classes

Each Dallas College campus hires continuing education instructors independently and has a slightly different process for doing so. Please contact the Continuing Education Office at each location for more information.

 
 

You can become a Dallas College adjunct instructor even if you have no prior teaching experience.

Teaching as an adjunct provides an excellent opportunity to gain hours in the classroom.

 

Faculty Market Disparity Stipend for Full-time Faculty

Dallas College awards stipends of either $8,000 or $5,000 to attract and retain qualified faculty in the areas of Nursing/Allied Health and Veterinary Technology.

Please note that this stipend applies only to full-time faculty.

In lieu of an annual stipend, a faculty member may choose a $2,500 adjustment to base salary.
