DALLAS, TEXAS - Dallas College Board Trustee Monica Lira Bravo has announced that, following a planned relocation outside the district she represents and in accordance with the residency requirements governing Board service, she will conclude her tenure on the Dallas College Board of Trustees, effective upon the appointment of a successor. Trustee Lira Bravo’s departure marks the close of a distinguished decade of service to Dallas College and the residents of District 4.

Elected in June 2016, Trustee Lira Bravo has been a driving force behind one of the most transformative eras in the institution's history. During her service, including four years as Chair of the Board of Trustees, she helped guide the historic consolidation of the former Dallas County Community College District into the unified Dallas College, positioning the institution to best serve students, employers and communities.

"It has been the honor of my life to serve Dallas College and the students, families and communities we represent," said Dallas College Trustee, Monica Lira Bravo. "Over the last decade, I have witnessed firsthand the extraordinary impact Dallas College has on transforming lives through education and workforce opportunity. While this was not an easy decision, I believe the time is right to make way for new leadership and fresh perspectives to represent the residents of District 4. Dallas College will always hold a special place in my heart, and I look forward to seeing its impact continue for generations to come."

Throughout her tenure, Trustee Lira Bravo championed policies and initiatives that expanded opportunities for students and families. She successfully advocated for the adoption of the first parental leave policy and helped establish early childhood education centers across Dallas College campuses through partnerships with ChildCareGroup, Bezos Academy and the YMCA. She also championed the expansion of dual credit and P-TECH programs, strengthened workforce education initiatives, and supported the launch of bachelor's degree programs in high-demand fields such as nursing and early childhood education.

As Board Chair from 2020 to 2024, Trustee Lira Bravo helped lead the college through the successful unification of its seven legacy colleges into one institution, the selection of Chancellor Justin H. Lonon, and the continued advancement of Dallas College's mission to transform lives and strengthen the region's workforce. During her tenure, Dallas College expanded academic offerings, increased credential attainment, and continued to serve as one of the nation's leading community colleges.

"Trustee Lira Bravo has been an extraordinary leader whose vision, integrity and unwavering commitment to students have helped shape Dallas College into the innovative institution it is today," said Dallas College Chancellor Justin H. Lonon. "Her leadership has left an enduring legacy. On behalf of our students, employees and Board of Trustees, I extend my deepest gratitude to Trustee Lira Bravo for her decade of service and wish her continued success in the next chapter of her remarkable career."

In addition to public service, Trustee Lira Bravo is the owner and managing attorney of Lira Bravo Law and is board certified in Immigration and Nationality Law. She has served in numerous civic and professional leadership roles throughout North Texas and has been recognized for her many contributions, including being named to D Magazine's 78 Women Who Make Dallas Great, the Dallas Business Journal's 40 Under 40, and receiving the SMU Hispanic Alumni Distinguished Alumni Award.

The Dallas College Board of Trustees will follow the process established by applicable law to fill the vacancy created by Trustee Lira Bravo.
