Student Experience: Seth Trimble

Seth’s traditional drawing background led him to the College of Visual Arts & Design at the University of North Texas. He then attended Brookhaven, where he began working with 3D modeling and applying his artistic skills to software programs Softimage, Maya and ZBrush.  From there, Seth enrolled in the Interactive Game and Simulation program at Richland, where professors Jeremy Roden and Tuan Ho helped guide and cultivate his skill sets. In June 2011, Seth became the first artist for Thruster, the gaming division of Bottle Rocket Apps. He has since been promoted to a senior artist position.  Recently, Seth has enjoyed shifting his focus back to 2D skills with pencil, ink and paint, as he finds them to be more personally satisfying.

“A lot of my creative inspiration comes from moments where I feel lost or uncertain. I turn to art to process those feelings. It helps me make sense of things I don’t fully understand yet.”

“The flexibility is the best thing. I’ve only had to come in to campus for tests. And even though I don’t live that far away, the cost of gas these days is a major factor in my decision to take courses online. Distance learning works for my budget and for my schedule.”

“In the beginning, I was hesitant because I didn’t want the courses to be too easy — I wanted to actually get something out of them. But once I realized my online courses were really challenging, I kept going back for more.”
