Student Experience: Sri Guru Keerthi Purini

“I got into Web design a little during my bachelor’s program in India and thought it was very interesting. Once I came to the United States, I decided to pursue a career in graphics and Web design to take advantage of my IT education while working on creative assignments.

“The Computer Graphics certificate program offered me the best option for learning the finer points of design, specifically in interactive media. This program helped me build a strong foundation. The thorough curriculum, well-thought-out assignments and hands-on training offered by the faculty have given me all the experience I needed to step into the professional world with confidence.

“I would absolutely recommend both the school and the program to anybody else who might be interested in pursuing this path. This has been a growing experience for me, and the time I have spent here will be something I will cherish throughout my life.

“The best part of my Dallas College experience has been the relationships I have built with the faculty and other students in the program. The photo above is of me with instructor Byron Black at graduation. He was my inspiration, and I have succeeded only because of his encouragement.”

Sri Guru earned a certificate in Computer Graphics in 2006, having previously earned a bachelor’s degree in information technology from Manipal University in her native India. Her job responsibilities at Belo Interactive include conceptualizing and creating designs for advertising campaigns of company clients in the Southwest. She is also responsible for designing various banner ads (static and Flash-based), e-mail campaigns, Web sites and logos. She works primarily in Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, Flash and Dreamweaver.

“It’s really invaluable to be able to learn from professionals who are a part of the industry. I also really like that it’s an accredited institution of higher learning, not a fly-by-night group of people trying to make a buck.”

“The program has small classes and is very hands-on. When I left El Centro and talked to people in the industry who had gone to other schools, I found that I had learned way more than most of them. Pattern making and sewing are definitely a big strength at El Centro.”
